HOW TO GET TO YALA NATIONAL PARK

Getting to Yala National Park and Wild Coast Tented Lodge from the airport is best accessible by buses and taxis. A direct drive here would be 4 hours 20 minutes and the taxi will cost approximately $100 one way. Yala National Park is usually a popular stop that travellers add to their itineraries while exploring the Southern coast. From Galle, the journey will be just over 2 hours 30 minutes and even less from other attractive locations such as Mirissa, Tangalle or Hambanotta.

THE ACCOMMODATION AT WILD COAST TENTED LODGE

The rooms at Wild Coast Tented Lodge are cocoon shaped cabins, privately nestled amongst the trees. There are three types of lodges that you can choose from – Cocoon Pool Suite, Cocoon Suite and Family Cocoon Suites that accommodate up to 4 guests.

The Cocoon Pool Suite welcomes guests with a serene patio and and a considerable size plunge pool. Inside the stylish, safari-style room there is bedroom, mini bar, freestanding copper bathtub, dressing area and a shower. Each single lodge is extremely cosy and brings out all the feels of a luxury safari and glamping in the nature.

All lodges have secure locks, doors and windows so despite spending a night in a middle of a nature reserve, you don’t need to worry about animals or insects.

THE LOCATION OF WILD COAST TENTED LODGE

Wild Coast Tented Lodge, as the name indicates, is located right by the beach and on the edge of Yala National Park. The surrounding landscapes combine the moody and stormy shore, wilderness of the jungle and sandy plains where wild animals happen to roam.

Although the nearby beach is not suitable for swimming due to strong currents, this place is still perfect for day-to-day relaxation, guarded nature walks or romantic dinners at the dunes.

DINING AT WILD COAST TENTED LODGE

Local cuisine is an integral part of Wild Coast Tented Lodge. The kitchen embraces the diversity of seasonal produce and its availability. The lodge sources products from small local producers and farmers as well as fishermen and communities. Besides the main pavilion, you can experience dining at the sand dunes or have a sundowner at the beach. The Team is always there to make your stay extra special.

The all inclusive basis is very convenient as the location is remote and there is nowhere near to dine. GAME DRIVES AT WILD COAST TENTED LODGE

When staying at Wild Coast Tented Lodge, you will be offered complimentary game drives. You can choose between the morning and afternoon safaris. While the morning one is centred around birds watching and flora, the afternoon one will be about animals and leopards spotting. The lodge works with local rangers, who will accompany you throughout the game drive. The Yala safaris last around 4-5 hours which is plenty of time for exploring the wilderness.

The game drives are suitable for adults and kids. Children under the age of three are not recommended on game drives, unless in an exclusive jeep.

IS YALA NATIONAL PARK WORTH VISITING?

Yala’s diverse flora and fauna make the park one of the most visit-worthy locations in Sri Lanka. The park is all-year destination, however, planning your visit during peak season (December to April) is best recommended.

The peak leopard season in Yala National park is February and March, however it’s not guaranteed that you will be able to spot them. However, you are most likely to see heard of elephants, crocodiles, sloth bears, peacocks and a wide range of birds.

SAFETY AT WILD COAST TENTED LODGE

Safety and wellbeings of guests is the highest priority here at Wild Coast tented Lodge. At the check-in, the Team will explain the general safety rules. The rooms have secure locks, doors and sealed windows to prevent from insects and small animals. As the lodge is located in the nature reserve, the security escorts guests to main pavilion at night to ensure their maximum safety. There are also guards overlooking the beach at all times. If there are wild animals roaming around, they will stop guests from entering the area. Overall, whether it’s adults or families visiting, they can be sure that the lodge is a very safe place to stay.
